PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the showdown between the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the final moments to force the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
