Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities determined he posed a definite escape threat while under home confinement.

The ex-president was convicted of planning a military coup in the ninth month and handed more than over two decades in prison, but he continued under confinement pending appeals.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Justice Moraes said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a precautionary step after "new facts" came to light.
